Unhealed wounds due to storm damage or other breakage?

When a branch is torn prematurely from a tree it can causes a large wound that may not be repaired by natural callusing. An unhealed wound can easily become decayed and infected with pests that can in turn cause greater damage and even eventual death to the tree. Split trunks are another commonly seen structural problem – they can greatly destabilise your tree. Pruning trees can avoid long-term damage.
