Tree and Shrub Care Solutions
At Arbor Pride we recognize how much you value
your trees and shrubs and and also how they add value to your
property. By carrying out the correct arboricultural and horticultural
operations (as listed below), we are able to maximise your plants
longevity, enhance their aesthetics, encourage future growth and
minimise any potential danger.
Trees and large shrubs benefit greatly from
regular expert attention. Attention may involve one or more of
the following:
- Pruning to AS4373/96 Standard -
to ensure the correct arboricultural techniques are used by
tree technicians so that a tree's health might be maximised;
and also to prevent unnecessary damage occurring by poor practice.
- Deadwooding - this is the removal
of dead, dying or diseased wood from a tree canopy to maximise
tree health; minimise danger; encourage healthy new growth;
and enhancing the trees aesthetic qualities.
Crown
Thinning - this is the selective pruning of 10-25% (depending
on branch density) of the tree's canopy (which will also include
the removal of weak, dead, dying and diseased growth) to allow
increased light filtration into a dark area; maximise tree health;
encourage branch vigour; and enhancing the trees aesthetic qualities.
- Removal Of Epicormic Growth - this
is the removal of excessive minor growth and branches that have
formed through tree stress or damage that may have occurred,
that will prevent the development of weak and dangerous growth;
to concentrate growth into the trees healthy branches for a
better formed tree; encourage tree health; and enhancing the
trees aesthetic qualities.
- Removal Of Reverted Growth - this
is the removal of growth on a grafted or hybridised tree, that
may of reverted back to the tree's root stock species or the
tree's dominant hybridised species, so that the trees intended
species might be maintained; and enhancing the grafted or hybridised
trees aesthetic qualities.
- Crown Lifting - this is the removal
of lower branches of a tree canopy to enhance a view; improving
the shape of a tree; create space for under planting, buildings,
and people; limit animals access to buildings i.e. roofs; to
prevent damage to buildings and structures; reduce the amount
of maintenance through tree debris; and enhancing the trees
aesthetic qualities.
- Crown Reduction & Shaping - this
may be the light removal of branching or the reduction of the
trees canopy by 15 - 30%, in order to improve the shape of a
tree; enhance or create a view; reducing the trees danger by
limiting the risk of wind throw; enhancing the shape of a tree;
reducing the size of a tree due to space pressures; creating
space; encouraging tree health; and enhancing the trees aesthetic
qualities.
- Pest & Disease Control - cultural,
biological or chemical (only where necessary) methods of control
are used to maintain tree health and aesthetics; minimising
the tree's physical danger; and preventing the spread of pest
and disease to other plants.
Cabling
& Bracing- either of these techniques can be used to secure
a tree that has weak limbs and trunk.
- Establishment - of a young tree
by beneficial pruning, correct planting methods, training, mulching,
fertilising and irrigation. This will encourage a healthy vigorous
tree, with a good branch structure and shape.
- Established Tree Maintenance - other
than all the different types of pruning (as listed above), the
health of a tree may also be enhanced by weed control, mulching,
irrigation, soil aeration and fertilising.
- Remedial Pruning - this is the on-going
pruning of the tree that is not included in the catagories listed
above. They might include light pruning, the removal of a branch
that may be in the way or the removal of storm damage.
At Arbor Pride all of the above operations are
carried out by fully qualified arborists, and not just
"tree loppers". The importance we place in having the correct
staff ensures that damage does not occur to your trees and shrubs
through untrained operators. It is for this reason that Arbor
Pride attach's such importance to training; staff, are provided
with ongoing training throughout the year to keep up to date with
all the latest arboricultural knowledge and techniques.

Tree Removal
Arbor Pride's arborists are often called upon
to provide an opinion as to the need or otherwise of removing
a tree. Before making a decision different factors need to be
considered such as the health of the tree, its safety and what
is environmentally best for the tree and the surrounding environment.
When
carrying out tree removals, Arbor Pride do so without damaging
the surrounding area or compromising people's safety. We achieve
this by our skilled arborists selecting the most suitable arboricultural
techniques and equipment.
It may be necessary to remove a tree from your
property. This may occur for a number of reasons, some of which
are listed below:
- Root plate lifting, causing instability
of the tree.
- Decay, hollows or cracks, causing weaknesses
in the tree.
- The tree is dead, or is showing signs of
significant branch dieback.
- Construction works or any other reasons
that may pose a threat or danger to people or structures.
- The removal of pest tree species i.e. pinus
spp., camphor laurels, and privet.
- Inappropriate choice of tree species for
a space.
Stump Removal
Stump
removal can be carried out in order to maximise the use of space,
reduce the harbouring of pest & diseases and to prevent regrowth.
Arbor Pride use different stump removal machinery, which is dependent
upon access and the size of stump.

Consultancy Services
Arbor Pride's qualified arborists will inspect
your property to determine your tree and shrub care requirements.
Regular monitoring can also be arranged.
Our consultancy services include:
- Tree and Shrub Surveys - a comprehensive
inspection for tree and shrubs on a property, so that they may
be professionally managed for ongoing maintenance.
- Individual Tree Reports - this records
observations such as hollows; cracking, rotting or weaknesses
in branches or trunk; health of roots; signs of pest & disease;
girdling of root systems. If this tree report is not conclusive
further testing can be carried out, for example:
- Testing for pest and disease.
- Excavating to check for root health.
- Testing for decay.
- Soil analysis- determines pH, soil type, major and trace
element nutrient availability and organic content.
- Horticultural/ Landscaping Management
- for professional advice, on what is best for a property, in
terms of garden planning and design, landscape construction
and plant maintenance.

Pest & Disease Control
Arbor
Pride arborists will diagnosed the insect(s) and/or disease(s)
affecting the tree/ shrub. The pests and disease will be treated
under a system called 'Integrated Pest Management' (IPM), which
may incorporate different controls such as cultural, biological
or chemical methods. This management plan ensures that pest and
disease control is environmentally sustainable and socially appropriate
where possible. By using these techniques Arbor Pride is able
to increase the tree's safety, prevent the spread of pest and
disease to other plants and maintain the tree's health and aesthetics.
Fertilising & Mulching Trees
Trees and shrubs are fertilised to promote healthy
tree growth. Before the fertiliser is applied Arbor Pride arborists
will take a leaf or soil analysis to ascertain the nutrient requirements
of the plant. A fertiliser can then be applied in the quantities
to achieve the correct nutrient availability. The fertiliser comes
in the form of biological or chemical products.
Once fertilised, the soil may then be mulched.
There are a variety of different mulch types to suit your soil
and personal preference. Mulch is beneficial for trees and shrubs
for the following reasons:
- Moisture retention
- Weed control
- Increased organic matter which will improve
soil structure and increase aeration and beneficial micro-organisms
- Aesthetic benefits
- Increased nutrient availability .

Hedgecutting & Topiary
At
Arbor Pride we take great pride in our expertly cut hedges and
topiary, which can be compared to the famous hedges, topiary and
pleaching seen at Le Chateau de Versaille Palace, Buckingham Palace
or Hampton Court Palace. A hedge cut professionally by Arbor Pride
will make a significant difference to the value of your property.
We have extensive experience in this area and will trim all shapes,
sizes and types of hedge to maximise their aesthetic value in
your property.
Fruit Tree & Vine Pruning
At Arbor Pride we provide specialist skills
in the pruning of fruiting and flowering trees, shrubs and vines.
With expert pruning we are able to maximize shape, fruit, flower,
and foliage size, maximising their value through the year.
We will also train fruiting and flowering trees,
shrubs and vines against structures or even free standing in a
variety of different shapes. This will control the shape, direction
and size of the plant, which will maximise the use of space and
its aesthetic and design value.
Arbor Pride are also able to graft onto your
fruiting trees, shrubs and vines so that you may further increase
the varieties on one plant. We can also graft onto rootstock so
that you may be able to grow a variety of plant that you require.

Tree Planting
Arbor Pride provides a tree planting service
not only for aesthetic landscape value but also to protect the
environment for years to come. Before planting we will select
an appropriate tree species suited to the location. The tree will
then be planted using professional techniques. It is important
that the tree has an ongoing maintenance programme so that it
may survive the first couple of years of establishment.
